This Week in Asheville: Oct. 28-Nov. 3

Asheville’s wealth of live music offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.

Setting

Many in the region may know Nathan Bowles as an exceptional banjo picker, but don’t expect music within the realm of bluegrass at this show. The trio of Bowles, Jaime Fennelly, and Joe Westerlund formed just a few years ago, but they’ve quickly established themselves with a brand of ambient drone that draws from Appalachian influences. —Jonny Leather

The Lemon Twigs

A throwback to the sugar-coated power pop sounds of the late ’60s and early ’70s, the Long Island duo of Brian and Michael D'Addario perfectly taps into those influences, sounding like a cross between the best aspects of Todd Rundgren, Big Star, and Wings.  —JL

Better Lovers

When four former members of Every Time I Die combined forces with vocalist Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan, it was a can’t fail recipe for metalcore greatness. The new band’s recently-released debut, Highly Irresponsible, has lived up to high expectations. Come for the riffs, stay for the whiplash-inducing time-signature changes. —JL
