This Week in Asheville: Nov. 4-10

Asheville’s wealth of live music offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.

Drug Church

Hailing from Albany, NY, this punk quintet manages to combine heavier hardcore impulses with a strong melodic sensibility that just works.  —Jonny Leather

Six Organs of Admittance

From delicate, contemplative folk songs to droning psychedelia, Ben Chasny has carved out a truly unique discography over the past couple of decades. His latest album, Time Is Glass, is another stellar collection of songs that build over every listen, and AyurPrana Listening Room should provide an ideal setting to absorb Chasny’s meditative explorations. Local avant-garde guitarist Tashi Dorji will get things started for this show that will benefit ROAR (Rural Organizing and Resilience). —Jonny Leather

at AyurPrana Listening Room
Wednesday, Nov. 6

Mr. Gnome

Back when we shared our interview with vocalist Nicole Barille, the duo was set to perform on Oct. 2. That didn’t happen, but we’re beyond thankful that the Cleveland-based psych rockers have been able to reschedule the show so quickly. (Plus, the extra month has provided some time to dig into their excellent new album A Sliver of Space.) Tickets will be available on a “pay what you can” scale. —JL

w/ Mellowfield / Powder Horns
at Sly Grog Lounge
Wednesday, Nov. 6
Doors: 8pm / Show: 9pm
[psych rock, garage rock, art rock]

Drive-By Truckers

The legendary Southern rock band will be performing its classic 2001 Lynyrd Skynyrd-based double-album Southern Rock Opera on back to back nights at the Peel. As is always the case, showgoers should refrain from requesting “Free Bird.” —JL

at The Orange Peel
Thursday, Nov. 7 & Friday, Nov. 8
Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
[Southern rock, alt-country]

NOUN

Beloved N.J.-based rock band Screaming Females may have called it quits a year ago, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never get to see badass guitarist Marissa Paternoster perform again. The tiny dynamo has shifted focus to her solo endeavor, and she still slays. —JL

w/ A Deer A Horse / Kreamy ’Lectric Santa
at Static Age Records
