This Week in Asheville: March 17-23
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
Gregory Alan Isakov with Asheville Symphony Orchestra
The South-African-born, Colorado-based singer/songwriter has slowly amassed a huge following over decades on the road. His melancholy folk songs have a pretty universal appeal, and with the artist being accompanied by the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, the tunes should radiate with an additional magnificence. Orions Belte
This instrumental Norwegian trio taps into a similar realm of groovy psychedelic pop as the much beloved Khruangbin. With several songs cracking over a million plays on Spotify, consider yourself lucky enough to still have the opportunity to catch this band in an intimate setting. It’s unlikely that such chances will last much longer. —JL

Mantra / Yesterday’s Clothes / Powder Horns
While the chilled out brand of indie rock that Mantra brings from South Carolina has us intrigued, it’s the pair of local acts on the bill that makes this one one of the week’s most exciting shows. Yesterday’s Clothes and Powder Horns have each been making a case for being the area’s best up-and-coming act, and they keep getting better. —JL
