This Week in Asheville: March 10-16
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
Bright Eyes / Hurray For The Riff Raff
Either one of these acts would be enough reason to leave your house on a weeknight. Conor Oberst and Alynda Segarra are two of the most enduring songwriters of the 21st century, and to have them together on a single bill really makes these back-to-back nights at the Peel can’t-miss events. —Jonny Leather

Caroline Rose
Following their 2018 breakthrough album, Loner, the singer/songwriter has continually evolved, creating increasingly ambitious collections. But for their excellent new LP, year of the slug, Rose intentionally took a back-to-basics approach, recording 11 originals on their phone’s GarageBand app. In addition to only releasing the album on Bandcamp and a limited edition vinyl, Rose’s solo tour is exclusively at independent venues, which they call “the working class of the touring industry” and “the ones hit hardest by the corporations hoarding all the money at the top.” A seated Rose show in this West Asheville space is the definition of a treat. —Edwin Arnaudin

BASIC
The latest project from adventurous guitarist Chris Forsyth finds him teaming up with percussionist Mikel Patrick Avery (Natural Information Society) and bassist Douglas McCombs (Tortoise). The trio’s sonic explorations have the capacity to please both the art rock crowd as well as trippin’ hippies.

Castle Rat
This doom metal quartet from Brooklyn has gone all in on its wild fantasy aesthetic, but also doesn’t come up short on riffs dank enough to summon Sabbath comparisons.
