If standing in a large crowd, soaking in sunshine while a dapper man sings soaring pop tunes isn’t quite your thing, maybe you’ll be more at home at Eulogy on Thursday night. Showgoers will be treated to an evening of dark synthy goodness by a well-curated lineup of underground darkwave acts. —Jonny Leather

Andrew Bird + Nickel Creek
Almost exactly a year ago, torrential rain cut short the terrific double bill of Iron & Wine and Andrew Bird at Rabbit Rabbit before the whistling could commence. This time around, the charming violinist will be joined by the masterful progressive bluegrass trio of Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins. It’s a dream bill of legacy artists who’ve consistently pushed Americana in fresh directions. —JL

Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast
Fixtures of the Asheville scene since 2011, these hard-working rockers have earned well-deserved acclaim across the U.S. and Europe for their energetic live shows, but always seem to save a little extra for their occasional hometown shows each year. If you can brave the madcap parking situation this Friday — and if a rainy forecast doesn’t interfere — it’s well worth the effort to check them out for free at this month’s Downtown After 5 concert. —Edwin Arnaudin

Tinariwen
Formed in 1979, this Tuareg collective has endured through far more adversity than your typical rock band. No one in Green Day ever took arms in a rebellion against an oppressive government like multiple members of this ensemble did in the 1980s. But as fascinating as the group’s backstory is, it’s the music that makes them special. This groundbreaking band opened the door for the current wave of groups that includes Mdou Moctar, Bombino, and Terakaft. —JL
