Fantastic Negrito
Some artists are lucky enough to breakthrough early into a career and at a young age. Others, like Xavier Amin Dphrepaulezz, take a far more circuitous route to success. Dphrepaulezz was already 46 years old and decades-removed from his initial attempt at a music career when he won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2015. Since then, he’s won the Grammy award for Best Contemporary Blues Album several times, and it’s easy to understand why. —JL

To call her a legend would be an understatement. There are few names as intertwined with the modern history of American folk music as the 85-year-old singer/songwriter. “Judy Blue Eyes” released her debut album in 1961 and has released a total of 36 studio albums spanning over 6 decades. —JL
