When Beastie Boys legend Michael Diamond dropped new music earlier this year, it was easy to be skeptical — it'd been a long time since the hip-hop trio released its final record. Thankfully, his first new music in 15 years is arguably more exciting than anything the Beastie Boys put out in the 21st century. —JL

Boomtown FestAVL

Although it only launched in 2024, the three-day arts and music event already seems to be a staple. While there’s some ticketed late night shows at The Orange Peel and Asheville Music Hall, the bulk of the eclectic lineup will be performing at Pack Square Park, where attendance is free. That lineup includes multiple performances by headlining Boston funk powerhouse Lettuce, and a can’t-miss appearance from latin funk machine Cimafunk. The roster is a solid mix of rhythmic music that’ll inspire plenty of movement. —JL

Acid Bath + Neurosis + Melvins + Kylesa

When this lineup was initially announced as Acid Bath, Melvins, and Kylesa, it was already a dream bill for any true metalhead. The reunited Acid Bath tops the bill, but the legendary Melvins and Kylesa may actually be bigger draws. Then California post-metal titans Neurosis were added to the mix. Problematic former vocalist and guitarist Scott Kelly may be gone, but the band found one hell of a replacement in Aaron Turner (Isis; Sumac) — as proven on the acclaimed new album An Undying Love for a Burning World. —JL
