Croz Boyce

As members of Animal Collective, Dave “Avey Tare” Portner and Brian “Geologist” Weitz have been responsible for some of the most inventive music of the 21st century — and their ambient debut as Croz Boyce, recorded with help from Drop of Sun's Adam McDaniel, finds the duo patiently exploring psychedelic terrain that feels natural and human. With close friends and associates Sham opening the show, be sure to get there early. —Jonny Leather

Drive-By Truckers

As with The Wood Brothers a couple of weeks ago, you’re all but guaranteed a great performance with these Southern rock icons. Yet unlike the warm folk rock of Oliver, Chris, and Jano, the stylings of Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley & Co. hit significantly harder, delivering arguably the epitome of live rock ‘n’ roll while still making attendees feel like they’re part of something greater and more unified than a mere concert. The good vibes of Burial Beer Co.’s concert venue should only further amplify this quirky family atmosphere, as will UK-based alt-country band Brown Horse, DBT’s latest finely curated opener. — Edwin Arnaudin

RADish Fest

After AVL Sounds Fest, Hazy Hideaway, and Boomtown FestAVL, you may think that Asheville doesn’t need another festival, but this small scale, one-day music and arts celebration is a welcome addition, and just generally feels more in tune with the more contemporary local scene. While the excellent headliner Tuba Skinny hails from New Orleans, the bulk of the lineup is locally-based, including Stages favorite Idle County. It’s worth attending just for the welcome return of psych-country band Shaken Nature. —JL
