The Black Queen

Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato teamed up with multi-instrumentalists Joshua Eustis (Nine Inch Nails; Puscifer) and Steven Alexander (tech for DEP and NIN) in the early 2010s to form this supergroup, releasing its debut Fever Daydream in 2016. The synthwave record found Puciato comfortably exploring new territory well beyond the blistering, whiplash-inducing rage of his most famous project, resulting in an album that’s sonically more in line with the most soulful NIN material. The band— which also includes longtime NIN member Danny Lohner — will celebrate the album’s 10th anniversary on one of downtown’s premier stages. —Jonny Leather

Angel Du$t + Agnostic Front

Coming from the same Baltimore scene that birthed Turnstile, this Justice Tripp-led outfit has a similar propensity for stylistically shifting gears beyond the adrenaline rush of hardcore. Genre purists haven't all embraced it, but it's been a breath of fresh air — and maybe teaming up with beloved hardcore pioneers Agnostic Front will help the band earn some respect from the most apprehensive folks. —JL

Geese

From appearances on late night to talk of psyops to P.T. Anderson filming frontman Cameron Winter's solo piano performance at Carnegie Hall, it's been a wild year for the NYC quartet. It feels like just yesterday folks were offering up hundreds of dollars for tickets to their sold-out Grey Eagle show. The group's first Asheville performance since that epic night last November finds them on a much bigger stage, but they've gotten plenty accustomed to large crowds by now. —JL

Sylvan Esso

They might call Durham home, but can we just claim Sylvan Esso as our own at this point? There’s undeniably a special connection between Amelia Meath, Nick Sanborn, and the city of Asheville. I know they feel it too — otherwise, the duo wouldn’t be treating us to back-to-back nights this week in support of its excellent new album Ow ∞. —JL

Burnpile 2026: Lucero + Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band

Sure, beloved alt-country mainstays Lucero may be the main attraction — or maybe it’s the beer? — but we’re most excited for Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band. The Louisville, Kentucky-based outfit might be best known for Davis’ brilliant lyricism, but they also put on a hell of a show back in December when they headlined at a packed AyurPrana Listening Room. —JL

Luna

In recent decades, Galaxie 500 has gained a considerable cult following as one of the foundational bands of the slowcore subgenre — thanks in part to a flawless discography. Formed by frontman Dean Wareham in 1991 when that band broke up, Luna is ripe for a similar fandom explosion with the younger generation. Maybe it'll take a much-needed reassessment of the often overlooked, overshadowed indie rock scene of 1990s NYC. —JL
