This Week in Asheville: June 2-8
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
Sleigh Bells
It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since Sleigh Bells dropped “Rill Rill,” the Funkadelic-sampling track that helped define a sonic moment. Few artists can release a song that captures an era quite like that, and while the duo has a solid new album in tow, they’re self-aware enough to know fans will be craving the high-voltage jams from their beloved debut, Treats. —Jonny Leather

This Is Not MANAS (MANAS + Che Chen)
AyurPrana Listening Room continues to deliver on the experimental music front. Sure, the name couldn't be clearer, but guitarist Tashi Dorji and percussionist Thom Nguyen — Asheville's longtime avant-garde duo — will take the stage, this time expanding to a trio with the addition of NYC-based multi-instrumentalist Che Chen (75 Dollar Bill). —JL

Peter Hook & The Light
On his current tour, Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook and his band are performing New Order’s 2001 album Get Ready in its entirety. While it may not hold the same iconic status as the band’s ’80s output, it’s a strong record in its own right — and the second half of the set delivers a well-curated mix of legendary tracks from both the Joy Division and New Order catalogs. —JL

Ramy Youssef: love beam 7000
At just 34, American comedian Ramy Youssef has already created and starred in the award-winning series Ramy, delivered a standout performance in the Oscar-winning film Poor Things, and hosted Saturday Night Live. As if that weren’t impressive enough, he’s now added a hilarious new Amazon Prime animated series, #1 Happy Family USA, to his résumé. It'd be so easy to resent him for his successes if he weren't just so incredibly amiable and funny. —JL
