This Week in Asheville: June 1-7

Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.

Patterson Hood

Along with being spoiled beyond belief by regular Drive-By Truckers shows — next one is Sept. 12 at Forestry Camp, BTW — we’re also blessed to host the Americana rockers’ two frontmen’s solo shows pretty much whenever they decide to go on the road. A little shy of six months after Mike Cooley commanded the River Arts District venue’s stage over the course of two generous sets, his partner in crime/rhyme does the same with his own distinct version of a one-man performance. —Edwin Arnaudin

Tank and The Bangas

Nearly a decade after winning NPR's Tiny Desk contest, the energetic New Orleans group remains as colorful and genre-defying as ever. —Jonny Leather

Sharp Pins

Barely old enough to drink, Kai Slater has already made his mark with three Sharp Pins albums — plus several releases as a member of Lifeguard. The restless lo-fi power pop prodigy and his band have passed through Asheville a couple of times in the past year, opening for Woods and, most recently, Snail Mail, but this visit marks its first time here as the main attraction. —JL

at Revival
Sunday, June 7
Doors: 6pm / Show: 7pm
[indie rock, power pop]

Black Uhuru

Though the group has weathered several lineup changes over its five decades, the roots reggae icons have never stopped touring or releasing new music — proof that founding member Derrick "Duckie" Simpson still knows how to groove. —JL
