This Week in Asheville: April 7-13

Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.

The Weather Station

Beyond its lush, spiritually infused arrangements, Tamara Lindeman’s latest release, Humanhood, is a deeply personal exploration of the struggle to forge meaningful connections. Backed by a full band on Monday night, the Canadian singer/songwriter will aim to create that very connection with her audience. —Jonny Leather

Scott McMicken & The Ever Expanding

Since relocating to Asheville, the Dr. Dog guitarist/vocalist has established himself as a local treasure. Though it didn’t garner as much attention as his main gig, McMicken’s 2024 solo album, When It's Happening, is arguably as good as anything they’ve done. —JL

Bored Teachers

If any occupation is rife with comedy material, it’s education. Throw a bunch of toddlers or hormonal teens into a building for hours, and it’s gonna get weird. Viral sensation Bored Teachers gathers some of the country’s funniest educators to turn those classroom antics into stand-up comedy gold. —JL

Ty Segal

Sure, we'd probably rather see the California garage rocker rip an electric set loaded with distortion, but he comes through town enough that we've already had that pleasurable experience. This time around, Segall will be playing a solo acoustic set, and it's just as likely to satisfy his devoted fans. Be sure to arrive early for the opening set (also solo) by longtime collaborator Mikal Cronin. —JL

at The Orange Peel
Friday, April 11
Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
[garage punk, psych rock]

The Bright Light Social Hour

It’s surprising, or maybe fortunate for fans, that this Austin-based psych-rock quintet isn’t playing larger venues by now. With a 20-year history, regular appearances on the festival circuit, and tours alongside acts like Aerosmith and The Flaming Lips, they’ve certainly got the capacity to take larger crowds on a trip. —JL

w/ Yesterday’s Clothes
at Eulogy
Saturday, April 12
Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
[psychedelic rock]

Naked Giants

The grunge era is now so far in the past that by the time this trio was born, flannel had gone back out of style. But the youthful band from Seattle is proof that the city’s rock scene is still thriving. And this group does rock, even if it’s not quite the mix of heavily distorted guitars and garbled vocals of its ’90s predecessors. —JL

w/ Girl and Girl
at Grey Eagle Music Hall
Sunday, April 13
Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
