This Week in Asheville: April 27-May 3
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
GWAR
Every show by the intergalactic warlords is an event, but this will be their first local performance since MAGA learned about them and had a hissy fit about their 2025 Riot Fest set. Their latest stage extravaganza includes making fun of ICE and other low-hanging, skewer-worthy subjects. —Edwin Arnaudin

Boogarins
Brazil has a rich and often underappreciated psychedelic tradition, stretching back to the late 1960s with visionaries like Os Mutantes and Tom Zé at the vanguard of the Tropicália movement. That spirit never died — it simply evolved. Boogarins, the Goiânia-born duo, are among its most compelling contemporary torchbearers, carrying the torch into weirder, more introspective territory. Louisville's Doom Gong and local favorites Silver Doors round out a bill that should not be missed. —Jonny Leather

Flyte
Rescheduled from October, these Aimee Mann collaborators feel like spiritual successors to Nick Drake, featuring Beatles-esque melodies and chord progressions, plus harmonies that would make Fleet Foxes proud. —EA

Static Age 21.5 Year Anniversary
Every city needs a great underground venue that’s willing to regularly book a mix of great lesser known touring acts and inspired local artists. Stop by the Lexington Avenue record store any night of the week and you’re likely to hear something interesting, or at least artists who don’t sound like they’re doing the musical equivalent of paint-by-numbers. This weekend, the space celebrates its anniversary with three packed shows featuring more bands than we could possibly break down. —JL

The Nude Party
The folk rock septet formed in the dorms of Appalachian State University in nearby Boone may rightly claim the headline slot, but it's the cosmic twang of Tobacco City that has us most excited about this double bill. —JL

Clutch + Corrosion of Conformity
Different as they are, both headliners are products of the same essential DNA — Southern rock and metal — and each has grown into a genuine pillar of hard rock in the Southeast. Setting the stage is one of Asheville's most singular characters: JD Pinkus, ex-Butthole Surfer, devoted banjo eccentric, and a performer unlike anyone else you'll see tonight. —JL
