Interview: Efren Ramirez and Jon Gries

The indie hit of 2004, co-writer/director Jared Hess’ Napoleon Dynamite quickly earned a cult following for its singular characters, dry humor and wild, quotable dialogue, and gave tater tots its biggest spotlight in years.

In honor of the movie’s enduring appeal, cast members Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) are touring the U.S. as part of a special event called Napoleon Dynamite Live! The evening includes a screening of the film, followed by an energetic, interactive experience with these three stars.

Prior to the roadshow’s Sunday, Dec. 7, stop at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, Asheville Stages spoke with Ramirez about life before and after his breakthrough performance — a conversation that featured a surprise cameo from Gries (and his pet bird).
