This Week in Asheville: July 6-12
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
The Bug Club
With an energetic new album out now on Sub Pop, it’s hard to believe that the catchy Welsh psych rock duo group is still under the radar enough to play at Static Age Records. In such an intimate room, this has the makings for a really special show. —Jonny Leather

The Silver Doors
The local psych rock outfit keeps leveling up with each show, racking up increasingly strong supporting slots along the way. This time, it claims the headline spot, backed by a stacked local lineup and Durham-based alt-rockers Slow Teeth. —JL

Slow Runner
Michael Flynn — no, not that Michael Flynn — has been writing and recording catchy, heartfelt pop tunes under the Slow Runner moniker for roughly two decades. On Friday, he and his band celebrate the release of Dog Years. If early singles are any indication, the record should appeal to fans of Fountains of Wayne, which everyone should be. —JL

Idle County
Last year, Colin Miller may have dropped the best record by a local artist in years. Earlier this year, i26connector released a debut album worthy of everyone's attention. Both will be on hand to support Idle County, which celebrates the release of its roaring alt-country debut, Long Gone Saviors. This is one of those shows you'll regret missing five years down the line when all three acts are way bigger. Be sure to check out our recent interview with Idle County frontman Ben K Lochen. —JL

Radio Free Eagle: A Night of R.E.M.
It's been 45 years since R.E.M. dropped its debut single "Radio Free Europe," launching the Athens, Ga. band's run as one of America's most iconic acts. On Saturday night, a roster of local artists honor that legacy with material spanning the band's 30-plus year catalog. A bonus: 100% of proceeds go toward funding Asheville Middle School's 8th Grade Capstone Trip to Washington, D.C. Listening to R.E.M. while supporting local kids is a no-brainer. —JL
