Talib Kweli
Quickly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the late ’90s as one half of Black Star, alongside Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), the Brooklyn MC remains a vital voice. He’s a politically outspoken, socially-conscious lyricist with a silky smooth flow that enables him to spread that message with pinpoint precision. If you can find an “in” to this sold out performance, make it happen.
at Sierra Nevada - High Gravity Room
Thursday, Jan. 16
Doors: 6pm / Show: 7pm

Natalie Jane Hill
With fingerpicked melodies that weave intricate tapestries over melancholy ballads, the Austin-based singer/songwriter crafts mesmerizing folk music. Her sound promises to resonate deeply within the intimate setting of the West Asheville listening room. In addition, the Sham/Avey Tare side project Ellicott Hooligan will perform a rare opening set.

Heavy Mountain Music & Beer Fest: Thou / Emma Ruth Rundle / Generation of Vipers / Harsh Realm / Weight Shift / Andy the Doorbum
Originally intended to take place in late October, this rescheduled celebration of heavy music and craft beer no longer includes headliner Wolves In The Throne Room, but it’s still well worth attending with Thou and Emma Ruth Rundle at the top of the bill. Additionally, local metal outfits Generation of Vipers, Harsh Realm, and Weight Shift will all be celebrating the release of new albums. Drink beer and bask in the sludge.
