This Week in Asheville: Aug. 11-17
Asheville’s wealth of live music, theater, and comedy offerings can leave concertgoers feeling overwhelmed when it comes to picking which shows to attend. But have no fear! The Asheville Stages staff is here to help with insights on the week’s most appealing options.
The Jesus Casino + Impending Joy + Sunbearer
A month ago, The Orange Peel spotlighted the local scene with an excellent showcase featuring The Silver Doors, Fashion Bath, and Tanner York. This follow-up promises to be just as compelling. The Jesus Casino crafts some of the most expansive and spellbinding alternative rock to come out of Asheville; Impending Joy, masters of garage psych, have quickly established themselves as a rising force; and stoner doom quartet Sunbearer will kick things off with a barrage of titanic riffs. —Jonny Leather

Floating Action + Daniel Shearin & Ryan O’Keefe (of River Whyless)
Few acts are as deeply woven into the local music fabric as Floating Action and River Whyless. For more than a decade, these forward-thinking folk rock bands have been beloved mainstays, making them the perfect choice to anchor the inaugural concert in Camp Grier’s new series in Old Fort. With Lonesome Station hosting, you can count on the good vibes flowing all night. —JL

clipping.
It’s been over a decade since William Hutson, Jonathan Snipes, and Daveed Diggs — collectively known as clipping. — released their groundbreaking debut, fusing industrial electronics with hip-hop. Since then, Diggs’ acting career has skyrocketed, most notably with his Tony Award–winning role in Hamilton, which opened the door to high-profile work in film and television. Fortunately, that hasn’t slowed the group down. Earlier this year, they dropped their fifth full-length LP, Dead Channel Sky, a blistering collection of cyberpunk-inspired breakbeats that hits as hard as anything in their catalog. Last year, they helped celebrate Burial Beer Co.’s anniversary with a headlining set that was among the year’s best — and there’s every reason to expect this return performance to be just as electrifying. —JL
