Gringo Star
Led by brothers Nicholas and Peter Furgiuele — who grew up in nearby Boone — the long-running, Atlanta-based indie rock quartet channels a well-honed retro sound that deserves far larger stages. That makes their upcoming show at the intimate Fleetwood’s all the more unmissable. —Jonny Leather

Tia Cabral is the pop star the world hasn’t yet figured out it needs. For years, the Bay Area singer/songwriter has pulled from a unique collection of influences — including ’70s R&B, synth pop, and shoegaze — and the results have been spellbinding. Her latest record, Portrait of a Heart, is no exception. One can only hope she’ll perform her breathtaking album-closing cover of My Bloody Valentine’s “Sometimes” this Saturday. —JL

Shakey Graves
I can’t say that I’ve ever been fully sold on Alejandro Rose-Garcia’s brand of Americana, but there’s no question that this city adores the singer/songwriter from Austin, Texas. With two sold-out shows, that love will be on full display this weekend. —JL

On its Epitaph Records’ debut, Hex Key, this quartet induces head-spinning instrumentation while managing to maintain a melodic appeal. —JL
